This is a map of Japan, superimposed on the United States. A few notes:

  • The United States is currently 3,806,000 square miles, but was 3,026,784 at the time of this map, circa 1920 (before Alasaka and Hawaii)
  • The current size of Japan is approximately 145,925 square miles; the figure listed above, 260,737, may have included Imperial Japan’s overseas holdings such as Taiwan and Korea.
  • Similarly, the population of Japan, per Wikipedia, was 56 million in 1920; the additional 20 million must have been persons in colonized territories.
